posted in: Podcast, Podcast | 0

Legal + Wealthy™ is a podcast for lawyers and law students who want to build wealth by changing the way they think about money, success, and their careers. Hosted by estate planning attorney, mindset coach for lawyers and professor Lauren Klein, the show explores the mindset shifts that help lawyers move from stress and scarcity into confidence with money, entrepreneurship, and long term financial security.

In this episode, host Lauren Klein, Esq. sits down with Sara Singer, Esq. to unpack her unconventional path that made her one of South Florida’s most formidable litigators and a TikTok influencer with nearly 100,000 followers. Recognized as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers and is widely known as @FloridaDivorceLawyer on TikTok, sara delivers raw, practical wisdom that every attorney needs to hear.

Show Notes

[00:01:00] – [00:09:17] Background and Cover Story. Sara shares her background story of how she went from being a litigator to a Tiktok Influencer of nearly 100K followers. Sara shares her competetive advantage as as a family law attorney that shapes every negotiation.

[00:09:17] – [00:26:43] Leaving the Public Defender’s Office and Building a TikTok Presence. Sara is candid about what pushed her out of criminal law and how growing up watching her mother — a family law attorney — gave her both a working knowledge of the field and a model for what was possible. Sara and Lauren dig into the realities of law firm partnerships — and Sara shares what made her decision to partner with her mother work where so many others fail. Sara describes how she went from 0 to almost 100K followers with her phone ringing continuously! Sara gives her honest take on social media and encourages attorneys to explore YouTube and Instagram if TikTok doesn’t fit their style. She reflects on her mom’s influence during this season.

[00:26:43] – [00:31:11] What a Wealthy Life Really Means. Lauren and Sara explore what a wealthy life looks like and discuss how this opens doors to freedom to say yes to life with family and friends.

[00:31:14] – [00:34:10] What Sara Would Tell Her First-Year Attorney Self
Sara closes with two pieces of advice she’d give to little Sara on day one: work harder than anyone in the room, and protect your ethical boundaries fiercely. She reflects on a culture that glamorizes legal success and entrepreneurship without showing the grind underneath — and reminds listeners that reputation is built in the early years when you’re absorbing everything. She signs off with her TikTok handle, website, and Instagram so listeners can follow along.

[01:08:03] – [02:07:80] Guest’s Journey Begins. Lauren asks Ro to take us back and tell her journey from where she started in law to where she is today. Ro begins her story in 2014 starting her first big job at a big law firm in Atlanta practicing trademark and copyright law. She had interesting clients and worked with great people.

[02:07:90] – [02:29:30] Beginning of Financial Journey. Ro’s money journey started in 2016 when she had her first child. She was the quintessential associate going above and beyond. After having her child, she realized that motherhood wouldn’t mesh with her demanding legal practice.

[02:29:30] – [02:52:83] Part-Time Policy & Financial Decision. The firm offered a part-time policy where she could do a percentage of billable hours for that percentage of salary. She and her husband looked at their finances to see if they could make it work with a pay cut (around 75-80%).

[02:52:83] – [03:39:23] Debt Reality Check. They discovered they had $678,000 of debt total, with almost $500,000 being student loans. The rest was between car loans and their mortgage. This revelation hit them hard when considering the pay cut for part-time work.

[37:18:90] – [38:05:30] Real Estate Investment Decision. Ro discusses entering a new season of life where she has more control over her time. With her husband in a demanding profession and young children, they previously chose passive stock market investing. Now she’s interested in real estate and exploring how it could generate income not directly tied to time.

[38:05:30] – [39:04:40] Real Estate Projects. Ro and her husband are dipping their toes into real estate. They’ve owned the property for a little under a month and are doing repairs before renting it out. Lauren expresses happiness and excitement for this venture.
